Why Retina came first on the Macbook Pro 15", and why the next out will be Pro 13" and 11"

After the fact, after WWDC, I normally wonder why I didn’t see what was coming, before the event. I’m sorry to admit that happened again this year! As we saw with the new iPad, Retina screens need more battery power and more graphic processor power. Knowing that, how could I ever imagine a revised Macbook Air with Retina? More battery couldn’t simply fit. The Macbook Pro 15" on the other hand was ripe for changes. With amply room after removing old technology and the optical and HDD drives. Together with taking away the glass screen, Apple managed to reduce the weight with one kilo. To go down another half kilo wasn’t possible just now. I expect Apple to repeat this exercise with the Macbook Pro 13", and let it be next out with Retina. The Airs however, will have to wait on radical better battery technology. The third to get the Retina screen, will be the all new Macbook Pro 11“, who will be only slightly bigger than the current 11” Air. I think Apple will turn to t...

The decentralized device-centric, connected mobile world and Microsoft Surface @KTeare

Watching the Gillmor Gang on my Apple TV is big fun. The Gang is tearing out verbal pearls “en masse”, you just have to grab them. But to write them down can be hard. Never less, here at 40:50 into the show, is Keith Teare, more or less as I could hear him, trying to describe our new IT paradigm, finishing a long discussion on MS Surface: It feels to me like, Salesforce and companies that have build cloud services, are going been impacted by the shift as well.  The iPad got enough storage to turn the cloud to a message queue. All of the processing being done on the iPad, but without getting rid of the sales-teams being connected to each other. The cloud will kind-of form like a glue.  This is the new architecture: Pushing functionality out of the cloud into the device, while the cloud still remains crucial, but different.  Salesforce will be very hard pushed to change its architecture to move into that vehicle, impacted of the cloud, of the growth of the decent...

Amanda's million dollar on @kickstarter

Bilde
Amanda Palmer from her net-site Amanda’s story moved me. Amanda Palmer will release a new album through Kickstarter , and happened to be the first raising more than a million dollar. I think the way she awarded her donors where just great: For $1, fans could get a download of the album; for $5 a download and a PDF; for $25 a download and CD; for $50 a download and vinyl; and for $125 a download, vinyl or CD, and limited-edition art book…  While pre-ordering made up most of the project’s activity, more than $300,000 was pledged for rewards offering experiences rather than things.  For $300 you could go to a backer-only show — 397 fans chose that. For $5,000 she would play a show at your house — 34 backers chose that. For $10,000 you could have dinner with her and she would paint your portrait — two backers chose that. Amanda has a huge fan-base, and that seems to be good for Kickstarter. I went to Amanda’s net-site and downloaded a song. It’s actually well...

Is Ikea disrupting TV with Uppleva? The timing is excellent, just a week before Apple are expected offer their take!

Bilde
I just saw the for their new Uppleva TV witch is integrated into furniture, with Blue Ray player and loudspeakers, all for around €1400. Ikea is telling a great disrupting story. They in fact solved many of my problems with TV. They hide the cables and provide support for the screen very nicely. They also have a menu system and made the remote hide unnecessary buttons. I expect the timing is quite important. Apple is widely expected to release something for television next monday. Ikea start in June with select European countries. At least the furniture named Uppleva is available in Norway and Sweden.

HTML5: The Next Big [Disrupting] Thing for Content @Moonalice

Bilde
Roger McNamee, alias Moonalice, alias Hypernet, is a world by itself. As earlier reported, I posted about some incredible interesting discussions he held on Youtube . In order to follow this guy, I chose his @Moonalice on twitter. Since McNamee is part musician in the Moonalice band and website, this twitter ID is a mix of investment, tech and music. So as I write this post I’m listening to his band radio-channel. I think he is calling the band's genre psychedelic jazz. Anyway, its great to listen in. And the visual style is quite elaborated, and remind me of the Art Deco in Barcelona: Moonalice music cover McNamee also co-editing the blog Roger and Mike’s Hypernet Blog , where he is explaining what he believes is coming after the apps. Yesterday I got THE reward for following. A really long blogpost on HTML 5 , and what part it plays in his Hypernet vision. It’s a great post and you should give you the pleasure to read it! Here is the final paragraphs: Imagine that the...

2. versjon

Bilde
Hovedbok hyres innenfor regnskap, budsjett, prognose, varelager, lønn, reskontro, fakturering, megling, portefølje (forsikring, reassuranse, lån, pensjon) for å skape forståelig informasjon.  Hovedboks jobber omfatter blant annet: Dokumentering: ny registrering og endringer, kategorisering, regler, lagring, sporing Kvalitetssi...

Scoble is pointing to Facebook as a possible disruptive mobile innovation @Scobleizer

Bilde
<p>Robert Scoble is a great source if you try to understand new trends. I had a good time on Facebook this morning thanks to him. Here is my comment:</p> <blockquote> <p>Following Scobles&#8217;s advice I now spend half an hour teaching Facebook. And boy, it learns. For instance the video from Scoble came up on my timeline. </p> <p>I agree with the notion of Facebook as an Über-OS. And if it happens to implement its app store and apps on mobile, that it may be a huge threat to Apple. </p> <p>It was also my first time on Google Hangout. That&#8217;s must be a real podcast killer! With that I can video-cast directly myself!</p> </blockquote> <p>Robert pointed out that in the end of June we know a lot more. He expects Google IO to add more functionality to the Google Plus. He also expects Facebook to come up with both a new ad-service and apps for mobile. </p>

@ClayChristensen

Is Accounting ripe for disruption — again? The journey into the land of mobile accounting continue...

Bilde
I wrote Is Accounting ripe for disruption - again?  about six weeks ago, as a preparation for the Asymconf conference in Amsterdam, held by Horace Dediu from Asymco.com. It’s time to revise it, and to continue the exploration of mobile accounting. This exploration, or travel, into the land of accounting , will be guided by questions like: Why Mobile accounting? What’s “The Job to be done” in Mobile accounting What is accounting — a glimpse into the General Ledgers inner secrets, to what I call the Kernel What job does the Kernel being hired to do inside accounting? Are there other jobs that can hire the Kernel? What are the Accounting Programs Providers dilemma What job does humanity needs to hire mobile accounting for? As all explorers know, there is way more we don't know than we currently know. The journey will need people with open minds and deep knowledge, and my hope is that we together can get a glimpse of this future. Let’s start the journey!

Locus and Power - @hdediu on @5by5 on the importance of “The Job to be done” on Cars and Networks

Bilde
My first take on Horace car quiz - Saab Cars and disruptive innovation — that’s a powerful mix! I just listened live to Horace and Dan doing a huge Critical Path show, the 39th. one. It was just fantastic trying to wrap my thoughts around cars, transportation, aviation, electrical power and networks! Why? May be because we then talk about real stuff, not just screens simulating reality. That’s healthy for a programmer/blogger… Late in the show Horace mentioned the immense worth of networks like roads. He talked about Amsterdam, assuming that they must had being transforming the city to facilitate bicycles for a century. Horace also remarked that electrical power should be created and consummated locally, as we do with solar energy. He surely is aware that in the Nordic countries are well accustomed to use solar energy by burning wood. He stressed that we shouldn’t try to innovate neither cars, nor aviation but instead looking on the job to be done. And that’s an advi...

Android Revenues in Perspective - shocking graphics from @asymco

Bilde
Horace Dediu is currently working to crack the code of Android economics, and yesterday put the numbers in graphics showing how Android economics compare to Apple. The differences in size of the economics is simply stunning. The difference is so huge that I think it must be something missing in the Android part. Just look at the graph. I'v put a cirle around the Android graph and the rest is a part of Apple's. It doesn’t help either that the Android part is for a year, Apple for a quarter. I’m really looking forward to his next posts on the matter and to the Critical Path podcast this afternoon. BTW - I’ll try to follow it live on the new 5by5 app .

Assistants — on going beyond Apple's Siri - @andyhickl

Andy Hickl, TechCrunch, wants to go further than just answer questions, beyond Siri. He really wants a companion: A great companion (human, software, canine, or other) knows me well enough that I trust it implicitly. It’s that kind of trust (such as those between intimates or between a boy and his app) that could make companion apps so valuable — and so hard to put down. Entrepreneurs knows how valuable it is to discover the pain-points: Let’s just put it this way. What’s the biggest pain point available to us entrepreneurs? It’s got to be death and dying. The elixir of life? That’s the ultimate killer app, and the foundation of the entire pharmaceutical industry, among other things. Andy correctly points out that the assistants are viable startup projects: But what’s next in line? What’s just below a fountain of youth? Well, it’s making the most out of the time you do have here on earth. Does Andy Hickl goes to far with the following objective? What about an assistant that...

I've got a dozen new live tech radio channels. 5by5 offer live podcasting as an iPhone app!

Bilde
Listening to Marco Arment, John Gruber, Horace Dediu & al. is just great. But hearing them live is even better. I did almost never get the change. You never knew exactly when Dan Benjamin got the show starting. But the shows I've listened to live have been great. I don't know why, but live radio make me more alert and concentrated. Anyway, a good service has just gotten better! The 5by5 app notifies you when a show is about to begin, and links to twitter. Take the opportunity to be able to pay 3 small dollars to Dan Benjamin and his hosts for a wonderful radio experience! Get the app here!

Here's Why Google and Facebook Might Completely Disappear in the Next 5 Years

An Eric Jackson Forbes article shows how incredible fast the innovation in tech is running: We think of Google and Facebook as Web gorillas.  They’ll be around forever. Yet, with the rate that the tech world is moving these days, there are good reasons to think both might be gone completely in 5 – 8 years.  Not bankrupt gone, but MySpace gone. Just remember how slow Facebook was to make an iPad app. Why do they have to fulfill the Innovators dilemma ? The bottom line is that the next 5 – 8 years could be incredibly dynamic.  It’s possible that both Google and Facebook could be shells of their current selves – or gone entirely.  They will have all the money in the world to try and adapt to the shift to mobile but history suggests they won’t be able to successfully do it.  I often hear Google bulls point to the market share of Android or Eric Schmidt’s hypothesis that Google could one day charge all Android subscribers $10 a month for value-added servic...

Innovasjon innenfor høyere undervisning eksploderer. Stanford tar ibruk fjernundervisning i medisin! #learning #disruption

Bilde
In response, Prober and Heath point to a recent one-week study that compared the outcomes of two classes, a control class that received a lecture from a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and an experimental s...

@SteveGillmor on why GDrive kills MS Office

Steve Gillmor don’t posts every day, but he did post on Sunday, and I suspect he didn’t find another great article on disruption, and created one himself. First, I was a bit surprised; I thought GDrive was a bit me-too. That Google was trying to just match iCloud, and not worth mentioning at all. And it wasn’t easy to find it either. I had to go to my settings in Google Docs to find that I had my 5 Gigs of GDrive. Reading the article again, Gillmor seems to look at GDrive as a big bucket of links to my documents, and with ability and tools to both show and edit them. He sees this as the death of both filesystem and documents, and is quite happy with that: In other words, the list of things I don’t care about just got longer. I don’t care about the file name, because it is now wrapped in a container that includes the services I can access in addition to the information itself. I don’t care about the metadata, not the names of the people who have access to it or the sharing model t...

Which is best: hardware, software or services? - via @asymco

Job to be done descriptions are somehow difficult to express, at least in Norwegian. They don't flow well and sometime sounds strange. Horace Dediu got it flowing however in his last post on Asymco: Which is best: hardware, software or services? Apple is the most valuable company in technology (and indeed in the world) because it integrates hardware, software and services.   It’s the first, and only, company to do all these three well in service of jobs that the vast majority of consumers want done . Seeing just four lines, I felt for paraphrasing the text, just to try to get it down to a tweet: ∑ - Integrating hardware, software and services well in service of jobs that the vast majority of consumers want done, made $AAPL surge.
