Predicates in Core Data

Database programming is all about filtering and sorting tables linked to each other. According to the book Core Data , «Core Data is Apple’s object graph management and persistency framework for iOS, OS X, watchOS, and tvOS.» In a sense, predicates are an object version of the WHERE clause in SQL. Just like NSFetchRequest represent the FROM clause in SQL. I never have had problems with WHERE and FROM in SQL, but the predicate format strings in Core Data has been quite a struggle for me. I don’t think the struggle is only my fault. Predicates should clearly be thought, at least to me, as a method of writing WHERE clauses. Here is some notes from tutplus’ Core Data and Swift: Relationships and More Fetching : let predicate = NSPredicate(format: "%K == %@", "last", "Doe") The predicate format string uses %K (K stands for Key) for the property name and %@ for the value. let predicate = NSPredicate(format: "%K >= %i", ...

Mobile Wars

iPhone vs. Android | Facebook vs. Groupon... Today I wanted to show you a complete infographic created by Lucid Agency that depicts how the mobile and app market is doing now and how it's supposed to be doing in the upcoming years. A few observations: - Apple is still market leader as far as apps is concerned - Almost 100 million smartphones were sold in the first quarter 2011 - Subscriptions are growing and growing. As you know, iFacturas will be based on a subscription model very soon. Seems this is the most comfortable way to try and trust an app developer. - Loyalty to Apple devices is still higher than Android, but loyalty to this last OS is growing. Are you an iPhoner or a Droider ?

Why apps, and why on #iPhone?

Today's comment on the Tech world. Today all the hype is about mobile. The press focus, the inventions and the investors all are all going for the mobile. New research tells that apps are used 85% in mobiles. The browser only 15%. So the mobile world is based on apps. These small magic building blocks of information technology seems to be exactly what we need. And they also seems to have a price we are willing to pay. Who will ever be unsure to spend the half price of coffee to get an app which improves your life? Well, there are some, but they are being caught in the in app purchase cycle ;) There are still some. They may end up with an Android which market is running over with free unsecured apps... The app is an Apple thing. So much that Apple with reason claims the right to the term app store. Last year more than 90% of apps income went through Apple. And in the tablet market it's even worse ipad holds an 99.8% market share in the US enterprises. As long as And...

From Windwos to the iPad - is it possible to do the jump?

From Windows to iPad – is it possible to do the jump? by mortjac April 29, 2011 How can you switch from a tool so ripe and extensive as the Windows platform something so barebone as iPad? Well, in order to do it, I first had to accept some principles:    I will renounce on functionality    I will not try to do everything on iPad    I will try to do things I didn’t do before, for instance music, video, podcast. The last point is very important. I need some positive feedback to keep myself motivated. And motivation is the clue, because it hurts to make the chance. It’s painful not to do it the way I did before, very painful! It became very clear what I couldn’t do on iPad:   SQL Database Manager to manage our GL21 in Microsoft Azure    MS Excel, which I use in budgeting and statistics. The pivot table function that I depend on, I haven’t found in any iPad app yet. Tell me if you know any! So I keep my Windows and Mac laptops. And ...

IPad istedet for PC.

River of News derimot funket. Så nyhetene ble sortert. 3.

Apple set to open massive European flagship store in Liechtenstein

Bilde
This will be a tourist hallmark. Mark my words! A post from The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) by Michael Grothaus has the whole story . Here is a part: It may be one of the smallest countries in Europe, but Vaduz, Liechtenstein will soon host Apple's largest European flagship Apple Store. The store, which will be located adjacent to the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein   (Liechtenstein's Museum of Modern Art) and open in September, will be even larger than London's 28,000 square-foot Regent Street Apple Store, measuring 43,000 square feet. ... The third floor will reportedly be an interesting mix of technology and art, including what might be a shared theater/gallery with the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein as well as a state-of-the-art digital library using iBooks sharing. The library was added to the plans at the last minute when Apple found out Liechtenstein is one of only two countries in the world with a  100 percent literacy rate  (interestingly, this is probably the re...

Google vs. Android Part V - by @Asymco

A post from asymco.com by Horace Dediu has the whole story . Here it is with kind permission: When I began the series of posts on Google vs. Android I put forward some questions about the business logic of Google becoming an operating system supplier, especially as that role can be seen as being counter-productive to Google’s strategy. I noted three strategy costs associated with a zero priced systems software bundle. A  opportunity cost  with other platform vendors, namely Apple who might retaliate against Google’s core business. Versions of the software being  usurped  and modified to provide distribution to Google’s competitors. Damage  to Google’s brand and positioning and negotiating power in relation with other members of their value chain. More fundamentally, Google-as-systems-software is fundamentally asymmetric to Google-as-cloud-software and contradicts  the value proposition that Google enables value in the web not in accessing the web. ...

Forbes: China growth will propel AAPL shares to $547 in the next nine months

Bilde
If you remember the blogpost describing the iPhone as the most desireable phone in China . That desire will have an impact on $AAPL according to Forbes. A post from The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) by Michael Grothaus has the whole story . Here is a part: Eric Jackson at Forbes has written a piece with some astounding numbers about  Apple's business in China . Most impressively, Jackson thinks because of Apple's China business Apple shares will hit $547 per share by January 2012, only nine months away. That's an impressive upswing from AAPL's closing price of $348.51 yesterday. Jackson opines that Apple's four current Chinese Apple stores bring in US$1.3 billion per year, per store. With Apple set to open as many as 25 retail stores in China, and the Chinese "gaga for Apple," that means Apple's Chinese retail stores alone could draw in another US$32bn a year for the company. That's not counting iPhone sales through carrier stores, Apple...

Mac App Store Clipboard History Provides a Simple, Unobtrusive Stream of Your Clipboard Activity

Bilde
I need it. I repeatedly miss my copied items, and have to find and copy them again. And a free app on the Mac App Store. It's already installed and started while writing this. It couldn't be easier... A post from Lifehacker by Adam Dachis has the whole story . Here is a part: Mac OS X: There are several clipboard history and management tools for Mac OS X, but most of them cost money and provide so many features that they're actually a little difficult to use. Clipboard History simply remembers your clipboard activity and makes it easily accessible from pretty much anywhere.

How Much Did the iPad Crush Everyone Else in 2010

Agree. No comments. A post from gizmodo.com by has the whole story . Here is a part:   Jesus Diaz  —  There's not much else to say about this chart. According to Gartner,  the world spent $9.6 billion in tablets . According to Apple's official numbers, the iPad got $9.566 billion.

Gratulerer Aftenposten! Endelig er dere på iPad.

Først VG og så Aftenposten. Endelig. PS. Har dere en Facebook og Twit...

Survey: Apple ready for big China growth

Bilde
The most desired mobile for the Chinese is iPhone. The second is Nokia. A post by Chris Ward has the whole story . Here is a part: China is catching up with the Western world in many ways, and now "Wanting an iPhone really, really badly" has been added to the list of similarities. Until now, Nokia has been the most desired brand in China, largely because it's provided cheap handsets. Now such handsets come from Chinese manufacturers, and their low-budget image has led to their desirability being drastically reduced.

No Comment: Dell exec dismisses iPad, can't count

It have to be hard to being obsoleted by something you even didn't know existed a year a go... A post from The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) by Steven Sande has the whole story . Here is a part: ... Lark started by stating that "Apple is great if you've got a lot of money and live on an island. It's not so great if you have to exist in a diverse, open, connected enterprise; simple things become quite complex." Ahem. That deserves a spot on our No Comment wall of confusion. Next, Lark stated that enterprises were not going to be jumping on iPad deployments, since "an iPad with a keyboard, a mouse and a case [means] you'll be at $1500 or $1600; that's double of what you're paying." Joshua Schnell at Macgasm pointed out that a 16 GB Wi-Fi iPad 2, Apple Wireless Keyboard, iPad Dock, and iPad 2 Smart Cover price out at US$666 before taxes. Where the extra $900 - $1000 comes into play is a mystery, unless Dell is selling thousand-dollar mice....

The Post PC era as explained by developer events

Bilde
The next year you have less than an hour to buy tickets. A post from asymco.com by Horace Dediu has the original story . Here it is with kind permissions: The World-Wide Developer Conference is an event for developers. It is not a trade show and it is not a consumer show or an enterprise show for salespeople. Except for the keynote, all events are subject to Non-disclosure Agreements so it’s not even an event whose proceedings can be discussed openly. It’s also expensive. Registration is at least $1,500. Attendants are there to learn and ask detailed questions about development. It’s not for deal making. People not familiar with development would not be well served by the event. Registrations are therefore somewhat limited to about 5000. After the iPhone SDK was launched, the WWDC took on a new dimension. It became a mobile development event. As a result, 2008 was the first year when WWDC sold out. Attendance tripled over the Mac-only event the previous year. Every year si...

How many iPads did Apple sell? @Asymco: 7.3M

As we will not hear anything from Apple until their financial report in mid April, there is a lot of estimating going on. Here is a list of them. A post from http://tech.fortune.cnn.com by Philip Elmer-DeWitt has the whole story . Here is a part: Dediu's number -- 7.3 million -- is, as usual, on the high end. Legends Of The Fall, Apple Style

Bilde
A huge part of the Apple news in the blogoshere is rumors. Rumors about new not released products or services and possible events. I normally not pass this information on. But MG Siegler is so well informed, that I will let his well written write-up on what to expect from Apple this fall pass to you. A post from TechCrunch by MG Siegler has the whole story . Here is a part:   This past weekend,  we broke the news that iOS 5 , the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, was likely being released in the fall. This would break the tradition of a summer release. And we also noted that instead of a separate event in the early spring, Apple was likely to use their WWDC event in June to talk about the new OS for the first time. Sure enough, today  came word from Apple  that seems to verify both things. Apple will host WWDC in San Francisco on June 6 through June 10, they formally  announced  today. The focus of the event? “ At this year’s con...

Predicting iPhone sales for dummies - Update

Bilde
Update:  9to5mac.com notes that if iPhone 5 follows the iPhone pattern described by Dediu, it could sell 100 millions. A post from asymco by Horace Dediu has the original story . Here it is with kind permission: Apple’s second fiscal quarter has just ended. Time for analysts to put forward their predictions for the quarter’s report (due in about 3 weeks.) If history is a guide, the estimates will range quite widely and accuracy will be determined mostly by the ability of an analyst to predict iOS device sales (and iPhone most of all). How hard can it be? It depends on what you choose to prioritize as the proxy for sales. In competitive markets there is usually a constraint on demand and rivalry among suppliers. If that’s your assumption you might want to use samples from the sales channel as a proxy. That means sampling distribution channels and sales through to end users at retail. You might even watch competitors and index them to each other using historic market shares....

Apple out of overseas iPad 2 stock by Saturday afternoon

Bilde
In 24 hours the stocks of iPad2 in 25 countries where sold. It's definetly another global hit! A post from VentureBeat by Dean Takahashi has the whole story . Here is a part:   Apple  apparently ran out of its iPad 2 supplies by Saturday afternoon in most of the 25 countries where it launched the new tablet computer on Friday. If it’s true, then Apple is well on its way to having another worldwide hit with the iPad 2. The company is in a race to hang on to its No. 1 position in tablets and beat rivals using Android, WebOS, RIM’s QNX and other mobile operating systems.

Android: Open. Open. Open. Open. Open. Open. Open. Closed.

Bilde
I feel with MG Siegler. It's hard to hear all this talk of that Android is open. Read the whole story! A post from TechCrunch by MG Siegler has the whole story . Here is a part:   I’ve never liked Google’s use of the word “open” to describe the Android operating system. On one hand, the “openness” has led to situations where  carriers can more easily screw consumers . On the other hand, their system is really only “open” when it’s convenient to be. Wanna include Google’s services on your Android device? Sure, sign this partnership agreement. Wanna check in code for Android? Do you work at Google? No. Well then you’ll have to wait. Open.   But still, every chance they get, we hear from Google how open Android is, as if it’s the perfect answer to every question. How are you going to compete with Apple? Open. How are you going to keep the carriers in check? Open. How are you going to make money from Android? Open. Why is the Android experience sub-par? Open.  ...
