30 Million Mobile Banking Users in U.S. - Convenience is the driver, apps support it

I have to admit I don't use mobile banking. For me, that's too risky. But bare over with me. Grandfathers should be allowed to some hick-ups, no?

What really caught my interest is the driver, convenience, Porter was talking about. Mobile browser aren't that convenient. They hard to read and hard to navigate. Browsing is much more suitable on iPad and PC. So it's quite natural that apps are making mobile access more convenient.

So convenience is key. It reminds me on some other areas where we are seing convenience as a huge driver:

  • App Store for application distribution
  • iTunes for distribution of electronic content like music and video
  • Amazon and iBooks for distribution of ebooks
  • App Store's In app purchase of newspapers like VG+, NYT and The Daily
  • Apple Game Center for iOS Gaming

Don't forget the smartphone and the tablets. When made good enough, their so convenient that we accept their limitations.

I'm betting on that Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) will move to the mobile devices. The convenience in doing time billing, on site billing, on site travel reporting is huge. Suddenly one day busy workers just will throw all inconvenient administrativ processes and just do the task on their mobile device. There and then.

I'm betting on it, and I and my team are hard working on to make it true. And I will share the best part: Working on making processes convenient is big fun!

A post from mFoundry Blog by Jeremy Porter has the whole story. Here is a part:

comScore announced this week that nearly 30 million people in the U.S. (okay, 29.8 million people to be exact) accessed their financial services information on their mobile device during the 4th quarter of 2010. This is a 54% more than did so in Q4 2009.
What’s driving the growth? One word: convenience. Mobile banking is the ultimate convenience for customers. It gives them more time in the day – time that would have been spent at your branch or ATM.

Mobile Apps Growing Faster Than Mobile Browsers
Another huge driver of mobile banking growth is the mobile banking app itself. According to comScore’s research, mobile apps are growing faster than mobile browsers – 10.8 million users accessed their accounts via applications in Q4 2010, a 120% increase over Q4 2009, while mobile browser use increased 58%.
